"There is one human institution that makes a pauper the equal of a Rockefeller, the stupid man the equal of an Einstein,
and the ignorant man the equal of any college president. That institution, gentlemen, is a court."
- Atticus Finch, To Kill a Mockingbird
Mission Statement:
To protect and support the sacred right of trial by jury, a bedrock American and Texan value.
PAC's Purpose:
- To identify and assess challenges to the jury system in Bexar county.
- To influence the election of judges who, by their activities, personal conduct, and record of performance, have ably demonstrated their support for the sacred right of trial by jury.
- To provide financial assistance to judges and candidates for judicial office, without regard to party affiliation, by raising funds for political action.
- To provide financial assistance to Bexar County legislative candidates, without regard to party affiliation, who support every Texan's right to a trial by jury and the protection of that inalienable constitutional right.
In 2008, the Directors of the San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association took action to expand the Association's political profile by creating, The Bexar County Justice Political Action Committee of SATLA (SATLA-PAC). This PAC was created to support the election of fair and impartial judges who appreciate that our justice system is founded on the sacred right of trial by jury.
In 2023, the SATLA-PAC Directors took action to expand the aims and goals of the SATLA-PAC to include supporting local Bexar County legislative candidates. With unanimous consent, SATLA-PAC has taken steps and opportunities to educate, discuss, and provide financial assistance to local Bexar County legislators and candidates. SATLA PAC aims to educate and support any legislator or candidate, regardless of party affiliation, that recognizes the importance of the constitutional right to a jury trial and the importance of protecting every individual Texan's right to seek public redress through our Bexar County Judicial System.
Since SATLA dues cannot be used for political purposes, PAC contributions provide financial assistance to judges and candidates for judicial office, without regard to party affiliation, for political action. In addition, the PAC will act as a clearing house of information and will encourage members to take political action in a manner consistent with its goals.
SATLA-PAC has a Board of Directors separate from that of the San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association, who govern its activities and help identify and assess challenges to the jury system in Bexar County.
